| Pasadena Early Learning Center (PELC) is owned and operated by the Pasadena United Methodist Church. The school is inter-denominational and welcomes children of all faiths.
The PELC subscribes to the following general principles of Early Childhood Education:
- Children need a loving, safe, comfortable and stimulating environment in which they may work, play, and learn.
- Play is the work of children.
- Children are active learners - they learn best by doing.
- Children need to feel that they are special
- Children are eager learners - they want to explore, experiment, and create.
- Children are social beings - they enjoy social interactions with peers and adults and gain social skills through group encounters that can be provided in the classroom environment.
- Children want to do things for themselves - children seek independence during the preschool years
At each age level, we focus in one developmentally appropriate area of growth and learning for the children. Activities appropriate for the age span of the children within the group are implemented with attention given to the individual needs of the children within the class. Needs, interests, and various levels of development within the group determine to a large extent the programming. The majority of our program is filled with providing the time and opportunities for the children to choose from a large variety of activities, materials, and equipment within the classroom and school environment.

The school operates on a non-profit basis. PELC is registered with the Maryland State Board of Education, certificate# 3202.
